Redlynch is located on the western edge of
Cairns backing onto the
Barron Gorge National Park and borders
Kamerunga,
Freshwater,
Brinsmead and as far south as
Bayview Heights. Redlynch is approximately a 15-minute drive west of the
Cairns CBD. Redlynch is one of the largest and fastest growing suburbs in
Cairns and is made up of a mixture of residential and farmland. The postcode for Redlynch is 4870.
Redlynch is characterised by separate houses on larger blocks, and some remaining rural activities. There are a large number of housing developments in Redlynch designed for first-home buyers, and the suburb has a population which includes many young families.
Redlynch has an expanding
shopping centre with a
Coles and
Woolworths supermarkets,
Brumby's bakery, chemist and newsagent. There are various takeaway food outlets and other small convenience stores in the area. The closest major shopping centre is Cairns
Central Shopping Centre located in the city centre providing access to most major outlets including
Coles,
Target,
Kmart,
Myer and
JB Hi-Fi.
St Andrew’s Catholic College (Prep-12) is currently developing a district level sports facility in partnership with the
Cairns City Council for Redlynch. This facility will eventually have an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a mountain bike track and other sports grounds. There is also a recently built state
primary and state middle school in the suburb. The nearby suburbs of
Freshwater and
Brinsmead have primary schools and a
Christian college. The
Cairns Sunbus public transport service also runs regular routes through the suburb.
